A song Firefly was created by Lori Mckenna and covered by others — many people may get to know her song this way. I knew her songs before but could not get any of her CDs in Toronto, Montreal, Saskatchewan, Trieste, Osaka nor Kyoto — looking for at all wrong places. I went to her concert at Club Passim near the Harvard T station on the Aug. 18th. with Murasaki Mike. We ended up sitting just in front of Lori for Marry’s show but we did not have a chance to talk to her but we should have invited her to BC. The show was great. Her voice was strong, energetic and clear. She has intense X-ray voice or supersonic voice so she may be able to shot down birds with her voice. The show started with Mary and Lori on stage and both singers sang some songs and then Mary took over the show for a while. After a break Lori took over mostly new songs but played some old songs as well. She played Firefly, Bible song, Minivan song, Stealing kisses and some others.

Before you met me I was a fairy princess
I caught frogs and called them prince
And made myself a queen
And before you knew me I’d traveled ’round the world
And I slept in castles
And fell in love
Because I was taught to dream
I found mayonnaise bottles and poked holes on top
To capture Tinker Bell
And they were just fireflies to the untrained eye
But I could always tell
Cause I believe in fairy tales
And dreamer’s dreams
Like bedsheet sails
And I believe in Peter Pan
And miracles, anything I can to get by
And fireflies . . . . . . . . . . . .
Now before I grew up I saw you on a cloud
And I could bless myself in your name
And pat you on your wings
And before I grew up I heard you whisper so loud
Well life is hard and so is love
Child, believe in all these things
I found mayonnaise bottles and poked holes on top
To capture Tinker Bell
And they were just fireflies to the untrained eye
But I could always tell
Cause I believe in fairy tales
And dreamer’s dreams
Like bedsheet sails
And I believe in Peter Pan
And miracles, anything I can to get by . . .
. . . . . . And fireflies . . . . . .
And firefliiiiies . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well there’s a hole wearin’ through this couch of mine
And all of the cushions are falling out
One little piece at a time
You might see yourself in me
But I don’t see nobody I know
This isn’t the way I figured it would be when I figured it
A long time ago . . . a long time ago
Well there’s a rule me and my little boy have
You’ve got to say I love you before you close your eyes
And he can dream himself to sleep and I can play or cry
One thing I have taught him well is to never wonder why
Why, wonder why
And I see Mars reflecting in my little boy’s brown eyes
And he says Mama I’m gonna get there someday
Mama I’m gonna get there someday
And I say fly
Well you can hold the whole entire world in your hands
Or you can borrow all of your lessons from me
Well life is not a question, son
I tell him life is just a dream
It’s not as bad as it looks right now
Because nothing’s as bad as it seems
Not as it seems
I see Mars reflecting in my little boy’s brown eyes
And he says Mama I’m gonna get there someday
Mama I’m gonna get there someday
I see Mars reflecting in my little boy’s brown eyes
And he says Mama I’m gonna get there someday
Mama I’m gonna get there someday
And I say fly
Well there’s a hole wearin’ through this heart of mine
And all of the filling is falling out
One little piece at a time
But I see Mars reflecting in my little boy’s brown eyes
And he says Mama I’m gonna get there someday
Mama I’m gonna get there someday
And I say fly . . . I know you can fly . . .
